OUT of the countless professionals who registered, Maslina Kula was named the where2kerja.com lucky draw winner held in conjunction with the Oil and Gas Sector Job Fair at the BRIDEX Exhibition Hall in Jerudong last year.

She won herself a Samsung Galaxy Mini.

The prize presentation was conducted yesterday at Syarikat Indah Sejahtera Development and Services Sdn Bhd (SISDS), developer of where2kerja.com, a website specifically designed to act as an online directory for professionals.

Presenting the prize was Christopher Ng Kok Keong, the marketing manager cum business development executive of SISDS.

Job Fair Lucky Draw Winner Announced

Bandar Seri Begawan - Dyg Maslina Kula, 24, was picked the lucky winner from the 2,500 entries of the where2kerja.com lucky draw held in conjunction with the Oil and Gas Sector Job Fair which was organised by the Department of Energy-at the Prime Minister's Office in last December.

In a brief interview, Maslina noted that before registering herself at the W2K booth, she was a bit hesitant but after a second visit to the booth she decided to give it a try.

Asked why the website drew her interest, she replied that the main thing that attracted her was that the website, unlike some other job vacancy adverts, is more reliable and more updated in providing information of latest vacancies both in the government and private sectors.

On hand to present her with her winning prize of a Samsung Mini Tab was the Marketing Manager of Indah Sejahtera Development and Services (13) Sdn Bhd (W2K Provider), Mr Christopher Ng.

According to Mr Ng, the lucky draw was conducted during the job fair to get jobseekers to register and upload their profile where they are automatically enrolled in the lucky draw.

It was the first time that the company conducted such activity and this year there will be several activities to be carried out such as roadshows which are set to assist local jobseekers to register in their system.

Where2kerja.com is an Internet-based directory of professionals and businesses that caters for the Bruneian market where since its inception in 2002, it has seen over 75,000 visitors with 1,446,447 page hits.

The Where2kerja.com has received an overwhelming response in the recently concluded oil and gas sector Job Fair at the Bridex Hall and received around 2,500 individuals who have registered for the site that matches employers with the registered professional.

During the job fair from December 13-17, 2011, Where2kerja.com also organised a promotional lucky draw for the people who registered to the site. However some of the registered individuals do not have an e-mail account to activate the registration.

With the final draw scheduled on January 17, Indah Sejahtera Development and Services Sdn Bhd, who is in charge of the website, would like to iterate to those people who have registered during the job fair to create an e-mail account and then register online and activate the registration via the e-mail.

The individuals will also need to upload their CV or resume in order to stand a chance for the lucky draw.

Christopher Ng Kok Keong, marketing manager and business development executive of Indah Sejahtera Development Services Sdn Bhd (ISDS) who manages and runs the website, stated that the platform is a directory of professionals dedicated to those ranging from the unemployed to the pensioners, particularly those looking to find a new job, to submit their CV online by creating an account with the website.

To register, the person can simply create an e-mail account on the website for easy communication and networking.

"There are four easy steps involved: first, to register on the website, and to remember that without an e-mail, registration is not possible; secondly, to activate their where2kerja.com account; thirdly, to upload their CV and post it on the website; and finally, to link the registration either to the employer's link or professional's link," stated Christopher.

At the Oil and Gas Sector Job Fair held last December, which ISDS participated in, around 3,000 people registered to post their CVs on the where2kerja website and were qualified for a lucky draw campaign organised by the company.

However, Christopher said that only those who have registered during the Job Fair last year were eligible to participate.

The lucky draw prize is a Samsung Mini Galaxy mobile phone, of which the winner will be announced on January 17.

 Vice-Chancellor to new UBD intake

SOME 500 new undergraduates of Universiti Brunei Darussalam were urged to be professional in their studies and interaction with their colleagues or professors, in their strive to realise their worth in the varsity.

Reiterating His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam's titah delivered at the 23rd UBD Convocation last year, UBD Vice-Chancellor, Dato Paduka Dr Hj Zulkarnain Hj Hanafi said his new colleagues were all valuable assets to the nation, but challenged them to question whether their "stay in the university is worth it".

Speaking at the UBD Freshers Week, an orientation programme for the new scholars, Dato Dr Hj Zulkarnain said that the academicians "can only take you to one level, the rest will be up to you".

In this journey he proposed, he stressed it should be carried out in a professional capacity, as "we truly believe you are colleagues because a university, as an institution where new intellectual capital and new knowledge are constantly created, requires people like you".

The vice-chancellor explained that the development of the university rests on the reciprocal relationship between the educators and the students.

"The development of the university, is not just from (the staff) but because of all of you; people who have taken a bold step to actually more towards (a willingness) to be taught, challenged, beaten up mentally and intellectually that is at this university."

"What you read in the books today, may not be valid tomorrow; information nowadays is changing at a rate that is unbelievable," said the vice-chancellor, adding that the university expects the undergraduates to share and exchange their ideas, the vice-chancellor said.

"Challenge your professors, which is okay, because you probably have read things on the Internet which some of us wouldn't have — and it is important for the sake of progress," said Dato Paduka Dr Hj Zulkarnain.

He also urged the students to work hard and also play hard by excelling in academic matters and co-curricular activities.

Dato Paduka Dr Hj Zulkarnain also pointed out something that he found to be lacking which is the ability to talk and hold an intellectual conversation.

"This is what I want to see happening in a university. What happens outside in the world, in Europe, Middle East, you might say it's irrelevant to us, but we might be able to learn from it."

He then commended the existing "star" students at UBD for their "tremendous efforts" in community service projects and teaming up with agencies like the Yayasan Foundation and banks in the nation, adding that they are "life-changing experiences you would not experience just sitting in a lecture hall".

Usaha, Doa dan Tawakal

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

Dengan nama Allah Yang Maha Pemurah lagi Maha Penyayang

Allah S.W.T menghendaki seluruh hamba-NYA berusaha bersungguh-sungguh dalam melakukan sesuatu dan diiringi dengan doa kepada Allah..Allah Maha Besar, Maha Penyayang, maka pinta dan mohonlah pada-NYA..insyaAllah jika berusaha, berdoa dan bertawakal kepada Allah, insyaAllah pasti berjaya..

Saya tinggalkan di sini satu kisah...

Suatu hari ketika Imam Abu Hanifah sedang berjalan-jalan melalui sebuah rumah yang jendelanya masih terbuka, terdengar oleh beliau suara orang yang mengeluh dan menangis tersedu-sedu. Keluhannya mengandungi kata-kata,

"Aduhai, alangkah malangnya nasibku ini, agaknya tiada seorang pun yang lebih malang dari nasibku yang celaka ini. Sejak dari pagi lagi belum datang sesuap nasi atau makanan pun di kerongkongku sehingga seluruh badanku menjadi lemah longlai. Oh, manakah hati yang belas ikhsan yang sudi memberi curahan air walaupun setitik."

Mendengar keluhan itu, Abu Hanifah berasa kasihan lalu beliau pun balik ke rumahnya dan mengambil bungkusan hendak diberikan kepada orang itu. Sebaik saja dia sampai ke rumah orang itu, dia terus melemparkan bungkusan yang berisi wang kepada si malang tadi lalu meneruskan perjalanannya. Dalam pada itu, si malang berasa terkejut setelah mendapati sebuah bungkusan yang tidak diketahui dari mana datangnya, lantas beliau tergesa-gesa membukanya. Setelah dibuka, nyatalah bungkusan itu berisi wang dan secebis kertas yang bertulis,

" Hai manusia, sungguh tidak wajar kamu mengeluh sedemikian itu, kamu tidak pernah atau perlu mengeluh diperuntungkan nasibmu. Ingatlah kepada kemurahan Allah dan cubalah bermohon kepada-Nya dengan bersungguh-sungguh. Jangan suka berputus asa, hai kawan, tetapi berusahalah terus."

Pada keesokan harinya, Imam Abu Hanifah melalui lagi rumah itu dan suara keluhan itu kedengaran lagi,

"Ya Allah Tuhan Yang Maha Belas Kasihan dan Pemurah, sudilah kiranya memberikan bungkusan lain seperti kelmarin,sekadar untuk menyenangkan hidupku yang melarat ini. Sungguh jika Tuhan tidak beri, akan lebih sengsaralah hidupku, wahai untung nasibku."

Mendengar keluhan itu lagi, maka Abu Hanifah pun lalu melemparkan lagi bungkusan berisi wang dan secebis kertas dari luar jendela itu, lalu dia pun meneruskan perjalanannya. Orang itu terlalu riang sebaik saja mendapat bungkusan itu. Lantas terus membukanya.

Seperti dahulu juga, di dalam bungkusan itu tetap ada cebisan kertas lalu dibacanya,

"Hai kawan, bukan begitu cara bermohon, bukan demikian cara berikhtiar dan berusaha. Perbuatan demikian 'malas' namanya. Putus asa kepada kebenaran dan kekuasaan Allah. Sungguh tidak redha Tuhan melihat orang pemalas dan putus asa, enggan bekerja untuk keselamatan dirinya. Jangan….jangan berbuat demikian. Hendak senang mesti suka pada bekerja dan berusaha kerana kesenangan itu tidak mungkin datang sendiri tanpa dicari atau diusahakan. Orang hidup tidak perlu atau disuruh duduk diam tetapi harus bekerja dan berusaha. Allah tidak akan perkenankan permohonan orang yang malas bekerja. Allah tidak akan mengkabulkan doa orang yang berputus asa. Sebab itu, carilah pekerjaan yang halal untuk kesenangan dirimu. Berikhtiarlah sedapat mungkin dengan pertolongan Allah. Insya Allah, akan dapat juga pekerjaan itu selama kamu tidak berputus asa. Nah…carilah segera pekerjaan, saya doakan lekas berjaya."

Sebaik saja dia selesai membaca surat itu, dia termenung, dia insaf dan sedar akan kemalasannya yang selama ini dia tidak suka berikhtiar dan berusaha.

Pada keesokan harinya, dia pun keluar dari rumahnya untuk mencari pekerjaan. Sejak dari hari itu, sikapnya pun berubah mengikut peraturan-peraturan hidup dan tidak lagi melupai nasihat orang yang memberikan nasihat itu.


Semoga yang baik itu datangnya daripada Allah S.W.T dan yang buruk itu datangnya daripada kelemahan diri ini jua..
